Can Tooth Bonding Fix Incisors?

A lad came into Envy Smile Dental last Tuesday feeling quite down about his mouth. He dinged his front incisor tooth on a glass bottle, chipping a corner right off the biting edge. Because his front incisors frame his whole face, that missing corner bugged him all weekend.

He sat in my chair and went: can you actually fix incisors with bonding, or will the corner snap off the next time I eat a sandwich?

I told him right away: bonding is honestly your best bet here.

Your front incisors take very light chewing pressure compared to back teeth, so tooth-coloured resin handles everyday eating with ease. You don’t need anyone grinding down your tooth with a dental drill.

With composite resin, we do not cut anything away. I took a tiny dab of blue etch gel, cleaned the broken edge, brushed on some liquid glue, and literally sculpted white composite paste straight onto his incisor while he watched in a little hand mirror. I built the corner back down until it matched the incisor next door, and set the paste hard with our blue light gun.

Whole thing took about 35 minutes. Zero numbing needles. No drill buzz. He had a brew, checked his new smile in the car mirror, and was buzzing.

People always ask how long it holds up. Honestly, composite resin is tough stuff. Most patients get five or six years before they need a quick polish to get rid of tea marks. If you happen to crack a corner on a stubborn pistachio nut, don’t sweat it. You just pop back into our chair, and we stick a fresh patch on in ten minutes flat.
