A chap popped into Envy Smile Dental wondering what to do about his bottom front teeth. They were jagged along the top biting line and kept snagging his tongue whenever he talked.
He asked me: is bonding suitable for bottom teeth, or is the jaw pressure too much?
I told him: we can definitely bond lower teeth, but we have to be smart about your bite.
Bottom front teeth are pretty skinny. They don’t have anywhere near as much enamel as top teeth, and they slam straight into the backs of your upper teeth every time you chew lunch. If I make the resin edges too long or too thick, you will bite straight through them on a crusty roll.
Instead of building them up super tall, I smoothed away the sharp burrs and added a thin layer of durable composite to level out his biting line. I cured the material with our blue light pen, and spent ten minutes checking his bite with carbon paper to ensure his bottom teeth glided naturally.
He didn’t need any numbing shots and was out the door in half an hour.
Just make sure you run floss between your bottom teeth every day. Saliva collects near your lower gums, so keeping the edges clean prevents tartar from building up around the bonding.
