I had this little peg tooth on the top right side of my mouth for years. While the other front teeth grew in big and flat this one stayed small. Looked like a tiny baby tooth shaped like a sharp pine cone. Back in 2018 my dentist filled it in with tooth-coloured composite so it matched the others and looked like a tooth.

That resin stayed glued on for six years—no cracks, no movement, not even a tiny shift.

If you have a peg tooth you need to understand how different it is from a tooth. A peg tooth is a narrow spike. When a dentist does bonding they build a sized tooth over that skinny base.. Because there’s not much natural enamel underneath the glue has to work much harder every time you chew.

I kept my peg tooth in shape for six years by following just two simple rules:

First I stopped biting straight into hard things like crusty bread, raw carrots or ice cubes with my front teeth. If I wanted an apple I cut it into slices. Chewed with my back teeth.

Second I got a nightguard. I used to wake up with my jaw clenched tight like a bulldog gripping something. The nightguard stopped the grinding. Protected the bonding.

Month I heard a tiny snap while chewing some crusty toast. I used my phone light to look in the mirror and saw a small piece had broken off the corner. I went to the clinic the day.

No shots. No needles. Nothing painful. The natural enamel underneath was completely fine.

The dentist smoothed the edge with a tiny sanding disc. He applied a blue acid gel for fifteen seconds rinsed it off then brushed on bonding glue. He shaped composite over the missing part and hardened it with a blue light for twenty seconds. He checked the bite with carbon paper between my teeth. Then buffed the tooth smooth.
