What Can Make a Wisdom Tooth Loose?
A healthy adult wisdom tooth shouldn’t normally wiggle. If yours moves when you push it with your tongue or finger, something has changed around the tooth.
Gum Problems
• Swollen or tender gum behind the last molar, especially if it keeps coming back.
• A strange taste or bad breath that doesn’t disappear after brushing deserves attention too.
• Pain when biting, although some loose teeth barely hurt at all.
Could an Impacted Wisdom Tooth Be the Reason?
Yes. A wisdom tooth that doesn’t have enough room to come through properly can press against nearby tissue and become difficult to keep clean. The gum around it may become irritated, and infection can develop in that pocket.
Can a Loose Wisdom Tooth Be Saved?
Sometimes. If the tooth has good support and the problem is mainly inflammation, treating the gum may settle things down.
But if there’s major bone loss or the tooth is badly positioned, removal is often the sensible choice. Personally, I think trying to hang onto a badly damaged wisdom tooth just because it’s technically still a tooth usually isn’t worth the hassle.
