Bonding’s the lighter option. A crown’s basically a full cap over the tooth, for when it needs real backup.

Bonding Makes Sense When

The tooth’s mostly fine, just needs a bit of cosmetic help. Dentist puts tooth-colored resin right on there, shapes it by hand, hardens it with a light. Done in one visit most of the time, which is nice honestly.

Small chip on a front tooth? Bonding works great, blends right in. Small gap between teeth you want closed without covering the whole tooth? Same deal. And the appointment’s quick, you basically walk out with it finished.

When You Actually Need a Crown

Crowns cover the whole tooth, which matters when there’s not much strong structure left, after a root canal, say, or serious decay.

This is where just picking bonding because it sounds easier can bite you later. A tooth that’s lost a lot of its strength needs real support, not a patch job.

Dentist’s probably going to recommend a crown if there’s too much damage for bonding to realistically hold, if it’s post-root-canal (bite forces will wreck a weakened tooth otherwise), or if there’s a crack running deep through the tooth that needs a proper look rather than a fast fix.

Just For Appearance?

For small cosmetic stuff I’d go bonding, personally. Keeps more of your actual tooth, and you’re not committing to something as big as a full crown for a minor fix.

Crowns look natural too when they’re matched well. But slapping a crown on an otherwise healthy tooth just because of a tiny cosmetic thing seems like a lot of treatment for not much problem.

Bottom Line

Look at the tooth itself first. Mostly healthy, small chip or shape thing? Bonding’s the sensible pick. Tooth’s badly weakened? Crown, no real way around it.

Don’t choose based on which one sounds faster either. Go with what actually fits the tooth you’ve got, not the one you wish you had.

Visit our page on composite bonding London to explore treatment options, costs, and expert advice.

So bonding and crowns both fix up how a tooth looks, but honestly they’re doing pretty different jobs.
