Your tooth looks better. Your smile feels different for a day or two. Then normal life starts again. That is where aftercare matters.

What To Do After Tooth Bonding

Give your mouth a little time to settle. If your dentist used anesthetic do not rush into eating until the numbness has worn off. Biting your cheek is an annoying way to start the day.

Your bonded tooth may feel slightly strange at first. The shape has changed, even if only a little so your tongue will probably keep checking it. You will stop noticing it

Drinking After Bonding

Once the numbness is gone you can generally eat normally unless your dentist gives you instructions. I would still avoid biting into very hard foods with a newly bonded front tooth. Composite looks solid. It is not indestructible.

Keep Your Bonding Clean

• A soft toothbrush is your friend especially if your gums tend to feel sensitive.

• Floss normally but do not snap the floss hard against the gum because that can make the area sore.

• Whitening toothpaste is not my choice for bonded teeth. It may scrub away surface stains on enamel while the composite stays the same shade.

What About Staining?

Composite bonding can pick up surface stains over time. This matters more if you regularly drink coloured drinks or smoke although you do not need to become obsessed with every sip.

Protect The Bonding From Damage

Try not to use bonded teeth as tools. Opening packaging with your teeth might save three seconds but it is not worth chipping something you just paid to improve.

If you grind your teeth at night mention it to your dentist. A night guard can be an option when grinding is putting repeated pressure on the bonding.

When Should You Call Your Dentist?

A tiny rough edge does not automatically mean something serious has happened. Do not ignore a bonded tooth that suddenly feels sharp, loose, painful or different when you bite.

Get it checked if a piece chips, off too. Bonding can often be. Touched up without redoing the entire treatment, which is one reason I think it is such a practical cosmetic option.

Visit our page on composite bonding London to explore treatment options, costs, and expert advice.

Tooth bonding feels pretty easy once you leave the chair.
