He had one front tooth that grew in looking like a sharp fang, while all his other teeth were normal and square. He hated smiling in group photos because that one odd tooth drew everybody’s eyes.

He sat back in my chair and went: can you actually sort out a misshapen tooth with bonding, or do you have to chop it down for a crown?

I told him: mate, bonding is made for this exact kind of tooth!

Grinding down an odd-shaped tooth makes no sense because you end up buzzing away good enamel. If you get too close to the dental pulp, you trigger awful nerve pain.

We take a completely additive route instead. I dabbed mild etch gel onto his enamel, rinsed it with water, and brushed on dental adhesive. Then I sculpted tooth-coloured paste directly over the awkward dips using a tiny spatula. Ollie held a mirror and watched as I widened the narrow flanks, rounded off the fang tip, and gave the tooth a natural square shape.

Our handheld blue light set the material solid in thirty seconds. Then I smoothed the surface with diamond polishing paste.

Whole thing took about 40 minutes. Zero numbing needles. No drill buzz. Ollie had a brew and went back to work with his smile completely balanced.

Most patients get five or six years before they need a quick polish to get rid of tea marks. If you happen to crack a corner on a stubborn pistachio nut, don’t sweat it. You just pop back into our chair, and we stick a fresh patch on in ten minutes flat.

Visit our page on composite bonding London to explore treatment options, costs, and expert advice.

A lad named Ollie popped into Envy Smile Dental last Tuesday.
