One of his lateral teeth was slightly tilted backward into the roof of his mouth, which cast a dark shadow and made it look like the tooth was missing or dirty in photos.

He sat in my chair and went: can you actually fix slightly crooked teeth with bonding, or am I stuck wearing clear plastic aligners for nine months?

I told him right away: bonding is honestly your best bet here if the tilt is only minor.

Bonding doesn’t physically move tooth roots through your jawbone like adult braces do. Instead, it creates a brilliant optical illusion. When a tooth tilts inward, it leaves an empty dip. By building composite resin over that hollow front face, we can bring the tooth forward so it lines up with its neighbours.

With composite resin, we do not cut anything away. I took a tiny dab of blue etch gel, cleaned the tilted tooth, brushed on some liquid glue, and literally sculpted white composite paste straight over the recessed face while he watched in a little hand mirror. I built the corner forward until it sat flush with the rest of his smile, and set the paste hard with our blue light gun.

Whole thing took about 45 minutes. Zero numbing needles. No drill buzz. He had a brew, checked his new smile in the car mirror, and was buzzing.

People always ask how long it holds up. Honestly, composite resin is tough stuff. Most patients get five or six years before they need a quick polish to get rid of tea marks. If you happen to crack a corner on a stubborn pistachio nut, don’t sweat it. You just pop back into our chair, and we stick a fresh patch on in ten minutes flat.

Visit our page on composite bonding London to explore treatment options, costs, and expert advice.

A chap came into Envy Smile Dental last Tuesday feeling quite down about his front smile.
