A lady came into Envy Smile Dental last Tuesday feeling quite down about her mouth. She had little chipped corners and jagged biting edges on her front teeth that drove her mad whenever she looked at photos of herself.

She looked at me and went: can you actually fix front teeth with bonding, or will I be forced to shave them down for veneers?

I told her right away: front teeth are quite literally the best spot in your entire mouth for composite bonding.

Think about how you chew. Your back molars take the heavy pounding when you crunch nuts or chew steak. Your front teeth mostly just slice through sandwiches and apples. Because the biting pressure is fairly light, dental resin handles everyday life without breaking off.

With composite resin, we do not cut anything away. I took a tiny dab of blue etch gel, cleaned the edges, brushed on some liquid glue, and literally sculpted white composite paste straight onto her chipped edges while she watched in a little hand mirror. I built the corners back on, curved the tips to follow her lower lip, and set the paste hard with our blue light gun.

Whole thing took about 40 minutes. Zero numbing needles. No drill buzz. She had a brew, checked her new smile in the car mirror, and was buzzing.

People always ask how long it holds up. Honestly, composite resin is tough stuff. Most patients get five or six years before they need a quick polish to get rid of tea marks. If you happen to crack a corner on a stubborn pistachio nut, don’t sweat it. You just pop back into our chair, and we stick a fresh patch on in ten minutes flat.
