A lad came into Envy Smile Dental recently after catching his front incisor on a pint glass. Your four incisors sit right in the front row of your smile, framing every single word you say, so any chip sticks out like a beacon.
He sat in my chair and asked: is tooth bonding actually suitable for incisors, or am I wasting my time?
I told him: incisors are quite literally the easiest teeth in your mouth to bond.
Incisors are flat and broad. That gives us heaps of enamel space to work with, which means the glue holds on tight. You can patch up a broken corner, lengthen an edge that wore flat, or widen an incisor to close an annoying gap.
I dabbed blue etching gel on his broken corner, rinsed it off with water, and brushed on liquid adhesive. Then I patted on resin paste with a tiny plastic instrument. I layered a creamy dentine tone underneath and a glassy enamel shade on top. Once the shape looked right, our blue light gun buzzed for twenty seconds to set it rock hard.
The whole job took twenty-five minutes. He walked out without any numb lips, and his front tooth looked good as new.
