What Are Dental Dentures?

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing, a denture is one solution. A denture is a removable appliance made from hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums — giving your mouth a natural appearance and allowing you to eat, speak and smile with confidence.

After impressions are taken, your denture is custom-made in a dental laboratory to fit precisely on your gums. Dentures are designed to fit snugly and are removed for cleaning. When you first wear a denture it may take some time to get used to when speaking and eating — this is completely normal and improves with time.

The Procedure

How Are Dentures Made?

  1. A denture is made from hard-wearing material that mimics the look of teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance.
  2. After impressions are taken, a denture is designed in a dental laboratory — custom-made to the exact shape and colour of your mouth.
  3. Dentures are made to fit snugly on your gums and you will be able to remove them for cleaning.

When wearing a denture for the first time it may take some getting used to. It is important to take extra care with your oral hygiene routine. Our hygienist will show you how to best care for your denture and gums, including specialised brushes and cleaning techniques.

Types of Denture Available

Full acrylic denture — replaces all teeth in an arch, from £800 per arch

Partial denture — replaces some missing teeth, £550–£1,100

Flexible (flexi) denture — comfortable, virtually invisible clasps, £650–£1,200

Implant-retained denture — stabilised by dental implants for significantly improved stability — call to enquire

Dental Dentures Harlesden — FAQs

At Envy Smile we offer full acrylic dentures (from £800), partial dentures (£550–£1,100), chrome (cobalt-chrome) dentures (from £999) and flexible dentures (£650–£1,200). We also offer implant-retained dentures for significantly improved stability — call to enquire.
Denture costs at Envy Smile start from £800 for a full upper or lower acrylic denture. Both upper and lower full dentures start from £1,590. Partial dentures are £550–£1,100. Call 020 3719 6889 for a personalised quote.
Brush your dentures daily with a soft toothbrush or denture brush using non-abrasive soap or denture paste. Remove and soak overnight in water or denture cleaning solution. Clean your gums, tongue and any remaining natural teeth morning and night. Our hygienist will demonstrate the best cleaning technique.
It is generally recommended to remove dentures at night to give your gums a rest. Your dentist will advise based on your individual situation. Dentures should be stored in water when not being worn.
Most people adapt to eating with dentures within a few weeks. Start with soft foods and gradually reintroduce a normal diet. Avoid extremely hard, sticky or chewy foods initially. A small amount of denture adhesive can help stability while you are getting used to them.
Dentures typically last 5–10 years before they need replacing, as the shape of your mouth and gums changes over time. Regular dental check-ups allow your dentist to monitor the fit and recommend relining or replacement when needed.
A flexible denture is made from a softer, more flexible plastic material than standard acrylic. The clasps are tooth-coloured rather than metal, making them virtually invisible. They are lightweight, comfortable and particularly suitable for partial dentures.
An implant-retained denture is stabilised by two or more dental implants placed in the jawbone. This dramatically improves stability, prevents the denture from moving when eating or speaking, and reduces bone loss. Call to enquire about pricing.
