Jaw pain, clicking, locking, headaches and teeth grinding are all signs of potential TMJ (temporomandibular joint) disorder or related issues. At Envy Smile near Notting Hill, our GDC-registered dentist assesses and treats jaw problems — providing relief from pain and protecting your teeth from further damage.
At Envy Smile
The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is the hinge joint connecting your lower jaw to your skull. Problems with this joint — collectively called TMD (temporomandibular disorder) or TMJ disorder — can cause a range of symptoms including jaw pain, clicking or popping sounds, difficulty opening or closing the mouth, headaches, earache and muscle tension.
Teeth grinding (bruxism) is a related and common problem — often occurring during sleep without the patient being aware. Over time grinding wears down tooth enamel, causes jaw muscle pain and can lead to broken or cracked teeth.
At Envy Smile near Notting Hill our dentist will assess your jaw, bite and teeth for signs of TMD and bruxism, and recommend the most appropriate treatment to relieve symptoms and prevent further damage.

Relief from pain and headaches. TMJ disorder and bruxism are leading but often overlooked causes of facial pain, jaw ache and morning headaches. Appropriate treatment can provide significant relief from these symptoms.
Protection for your teeth. Grinding (bruxism) can cause severe wear, fracture and sensitivity in teeth over time. A custom mouthguard protects your teeth from damage while you sleep — preserving your smile and preventing costly future restorations.
Improved quality of life. Chronic jaw pain and grinding can disrupt sleep and daily activities. Treatment restores comfort, reduces muscle tension and allows you to eat, speak and sleep without the symptoms that jaw problems cause.
Treatment costs depend on the specific management plan recommended at your consultation. A custom mouthguard is often the first-line treatment. Call us to discuss your symptoms and we will advise on the most appropriate approach and cost.
