A sinus lift — also known as a sinus augmentation or sinus floor elevation — is a surgical procedure that adds bone to the upper jaw, specifically in the area of the upper back teeth near the maxillary sinuses.
When teeth are lost from the upper jaw, the bone in the area can resorb (shrink) and the sinus cavity can expand downward — leaving insufficient bone to place dental implants. A sinus lift addresses this by lifting the sinus membrane and placing bone graft material in the space created, providing a stable foundation for implants once healing is complete.
